Goal Setting |
What is Goal Setting?
Do you find that your goal setting is not working?
Do you want to achieve your goals?
In my travels I ran across a corporate trainer that had taught over 10,000 people traditional “Goal Setting”. He had become thoroughly disenchanted with Goal Setting! Amazing to me, he decided to quit teaching what most people believe to be one of the most potent tools for self-advancement. He found that about only 1 of every 1000 people that learned and applied Goal Setting actually achieved the goals they had set for themselves. He said that some of it was simply laziness and not possessing self-motivation to be consistent. But, there was another factor that he could not account for that kept people form their goals even when they had demonstrated consistency – their deeply buried beliefs in their subconscious and their ‘destiny’. (There is a ‘fighting’ word. It implies that neither you nor I have been, and never will be in control. More on that later.) Since Goal Setting is primarily a conscious level process, most practitioners do not address the limiting beliefs that victimize them.
First, observe what is our reference point for our list of goals. Who teaches us to become better people, professionals, parents,…? We tend to pick up these ideals by those around us that have influence over us – such as our parents, our peers, our employer, and the types of media (television, radio, magazines, etc…) that we subscribe to. Have you been buying into what everyone else says you should do, buy, or have? (How would you seek to achieve the ‘goal’ of the average family having 2.5 children??) If your favorite choice of media is TV drama and police shows, how do you think this would affect your values and goals? (I prefer comedy, myself. Laughter makes me feel good!) Life is way too short to be miserable. In regards to universal time, we are experiencing this lifetime in a hiccup.
What ‘truly’ makes you happy? No – not the latest version of your favorite magazine, car, or computer game. What truly drives you to be the best you can be? What are your true rewards in life? If you don’t know, then you better take steps to find out. How can you expect to be successful at goal setting if you don’t even know what makes you tick? I’ll give you a big hint. All the answers to what makes you happy are buried in that knob that you have sitting precariously on your shoulders – your BRAIN.
Your subconscious knows exactly what you should be doing at any given time. You brought this plan with you when you entered the world. So did everyone else bring theirs’ with them as well. The universe is a tremendously well-oiled machine. It continues to run, whether you consider yourself a part of it and the world around you, or you consider yourself an island. You ask yourself from time to time “What went wrong with my plan, my destiny?”. Nothing except choice… your choice. Your choices that you have made in your life have determined if you have stayed on or deviated from your plan — your path through life.
When you have deviated from your path in the past, you have caused yourself to burn up TIME. The easiest way to sense when you are not on your path, is when you are stressed, overburdened, and overwhelmed; nothing is going the way that you consciously believed or planned. Why are you burning up time? Because you are not accomplishing the little (maybe not so little) goals, learning your lessons, and working through your obstacles and challenges that are in your path, you are not clearing the way for your highest goals to manifest. Another way to look at this important point is; as you skirt around your challenges (your destiny), you will have the challenges thrown right in your path again, and again, until you face them. Only then will you be allowed to move forward in your destiny and align things to allow your goals to come true. When you are on your path, you are NOT burning time. You will automatically be more successful with goal setting.
(Don’t worry, we all have destiny – but we still all have choice. Now that you have gained this valuable piece of knowledge, you have gained RESPONSIBILITY. Responsibility of knowing that you do have a destiny that you should be taking steps to fulfill, but also knowing that there are REPROCUSSIONS if you do not.)
The path that portraits destiny is “The Path of Least Resistance”. Understanding the workings of your Path of Least Resistance makes you invincible to your challenges and you are able to achieve your highest goals in all areas of life. The goals that will ultimately and truly bring you the happiness you desire.
Brain Management shows you “The Path of Least Resistance”, and how to apply it to achieve your best outcome.
“Welcome to Tomorrow!”
